Apple Crisp

1 egg
3/4 cup sugar
3 tbsp flour
1 1/4 tsp baking powder
1/8 tsp salt
1/2 cup apples, diced
1/2 cup nuts
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup brown sugar
1 tbsp butter
1 tbsp cornstarch
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup water
1 cup oats

Beat together eggs and sugar
Sift flour, baking powder and salt
Add flour mixture to egg mixture and beat well.
Add in flour, nuts and vanilla
Pour into greased pan
In a saucepan, heat brown sugar, butter, cornstarch, vanilla and water until thick.  
Stir in oats.
Top apple dish
Bake for 30 minutes in a 325 oven

Jello Cake

1 small pkg jello - whatever flavor you like
1 pkg cake mix  - whatever flavor you like
1 envelope whipped topping mix
1 pkg instant pudding (4 serving size) - whatever flavor you like
1 1/2 cold milk

Directions: 
Make cake according to package directions.
Cool 25-30 minutes

Dissolve jello mix in 3/4 cup boiling water.  Add 1/2 cup cold water.  Set aside at room temperature. 

Poke deep holes through the top of warm cake about 1" apart. 
Slowly pour jellow mixture into holes and cover entire cake. 
Refrigerate while you make the frosting.

Mix together whipped topping mix, instant pudding mix and cold milk.
Mix until stiff (about 3-8 minutes)
Immediately frost cake and refrigerate. 

Joy's Frosting for Carrot Cake

1 pkg (3 oz) cream cheese
1/2 cup soft margarine
3 cups sifted powdered sugar
1 tsp vanilla, brandy or lemon

Mix well together

Bar B Q Beans

1 lb ground beef
1/4 cup green pepper
1/2 cup chopped onion
1/2 cup chopped celery
1 8 oz can tomato sauce
1/2 cup water
2 tbsp vinegar
1 tsp dry mustard
1/2 tsp thyme
1 tbsp brown sugar
2 1/2 cup pork and beans
1 clove garlic

Salt and pepper to taste
Mix all together and pour into casserole dish
Bake for 45 minutes at 350 degrees

Hot Slaw

1/2 cabbage, shredded
2 egg yolks, slightly beaten
1/4 cup cold water
1 tbsp butter or bacon drippings
1/4 cup hot vinegar (hot as in heat, not spice)
1/2 tsp salt

Mix egg yolks, cold water, butter, vinegar and salt.  Cook in double pan over hot water, stirring constantly until thickened.  Add cabbage and serve.

Buns

Makes 4-6 dozen

8 cups flour
1 egg
1 1/2 cup milk (heat almost to boiling, then cool)
3 tbsp sugar
1 large cake of yeast
1/2 cup oil
1 1/2 cup hot water
1 tbsp salt

Knead all together. 
Let rise until double
Make buns and place on lightly greased cookie sheet.
Let rise until double again

Bake at 400 degrees for 20-25 minutes

Kranze

1 cup shortening
4 1/2 cup flour
4 tbsp sugar
1 1/2 tsp salt

Mix together like you would pie dough. 

3 eggs
1 pkg yeast
1/4 cup warm water
1 cup milk, scalded and warm

Add yeast to warm water and put aside
When bubbly, pur into eggs along with milk. 
Add liquid to flour mixture all at once. 
Mix well
Cover and let sit for four hours or overnight. 

Divide dough into four parts.
Roll thin as possible - should be about 1/4 - 1/3 inch thick. 
Brush with melted butter - sprinkle with sugar, cinnamon and/or chopped nuts.
Roll like a jelly roll, place on cookie sheet in crescent shape and snip open the top. 
Let rise 2-3 hours

Bake at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes. 

Can top with frosting or glaze.
